Who inspired me to write?
I’m going to be honest with you, it was Stephany Myers and her Twilight series.
There are so many amazing authors out there who have influenced my work. Dan Brown's brilliant, educational and suspenseful writing is inspirational. I combined my two favorite fictional worlds, Twilight and the Da Vinci Code in my 3rd novel. Talking my knowledge of early Christian history (from my masters program), which Dan Brown confirmed in lots of his writing. Then I added the fun and romantic element of Vampires.
It is a win-win!
Other major influential authors are J.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Jean Auel (Wow! All starting with J's). Sarah Maas is an amazing writer and story teller. The Hunger Games and the Divergent Series were also great. I'm a huge fan of the Vampire Diaries TV series. Not the books, they were odd. The Underworld movies were good.
Clearly I like epic series. That's why I write them :-)
I will add more as I think of them.
After writing the first series it took me months to find my new muse. It was actually a sad time for me. I missed my characters and felt like I was betraying them if I started a new series.
Finally I found another muse, inspired by my time as an America Peace Corps volunteer in Jordan.
What if women ruled the world? How could this be possible?
That is what I started with. I took a village in Jorden or maybe even a more conservative society like the Taliban in Afghanistan and reversed the gender roles. This has lead to an amazing story. Stay tuned. Book one will be free soon and I'm writing book 2 at this time.
